“By dieting alone (not exercising), how much of your weight loss could be muscle and lean tissue?”
“According to a University of Michigan research study, at least 25% to 30% of weight lost by dieting alone is not fat at all, but lean tissue, muscle, bone and water. However, strength training helps dieters preserve muscle mass while still losing weight.”
Losing muscle mass and lean tissue is not ideal! Make sure you’re doing your strength training to maintain and continue building those muscles. Lifting weights has never been a fun method of exercise for me, personally, (I love cardio…and classes, such as yoga) but the more I learn about its importance, the easier it is to push myself to do a few bicep curls or do a few sets a week on the leg press machine.
